Mental Health Facilities Wilmington NC
Adolescence is a time of tumultuous transitions — physical, emotional, hormonal, sexual, social, intellectual — and the pressures and problems encountered during this time can all too easily seem overwhelming, for adolescents and parents alike.
WHAT’s experienced behavioral health team is here to help! We provide adolescents, young adults and their families a safe, compassionate and confidential environment to talk. We will help you work through issues, concerns and/or challenges you may be facing. We work closely in collaboration with our primary care providers and registered dieticians, ensuring a holistic approach to care.
Some common challenges may include concerns related to:
- Grief and loss
- Dealing with stress
- Anger management
- Relationships (e.g., friends, family, significant others)
- Life transitions (e.g., recent move, new school, college)
- Decision making
- Academic concerns
- Self-injurious behaviors
- Suicidal thoughts
- Drug or alcohol use/abuse
- Smoking/tobacco use
- Sexuality/sexual orientation
- Effective communication
WHAT’s behavioral health providers are available to discuss these and other social and emotional issues that may affect the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults, and offer individual, group and family therapy.
Referrals are made for any additional services that may be needed that are not currently offered by WHAT.
WHAT’s philosophy also includes supporting and encouraging parents/caregivers to improve their understanding, skills and techniques in caring for their adolescent children, including developing constant, open and honest communication skills. Importantly, parents/caregivers are not alone – we are all responsible in ensuring our young people have the resources and care needed for them to live a healthy life today and in their future.
