Mental Health Facilities in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is committed to reducing the impact of mental illnesses on Wisconsin’s citizens and communities.

Everybody has mental health and just like physical health a person's mental health may be good or may need attention. Talking about emotional and social well-being with family, friends, and co-workers is one way to understand and recognize conditions that may negatively impact mental health and when to seek help. The Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services oversees a variety of prevention and healthy living programs to promote positive emotional and social well-being and recovery from a mental illness.

A Certified Peer Specialist is a person who has not only lived the experience of mental illness but also has had formal training in the peer specialist model of mental health supports. They use their unique set of recovery experiences in combination with skills training to support peers who have mental illness. Many community organizations who work with individuals experiencing a mental health challenge employ Certified Peer Specialists.
