Detroit East Health Services

Detroit East Community Mental Health

Detroit East Inc., was founded in 1973, when a small group of concerned citizens and professionals set out to address the growing issue of mental health care and substance abuse around Detroit.

With initial funding from the Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency, Detroit East set out to employ new practices and emerging medications to create a more humane system of community-based mental health care that fostered family support and rehabilitative therapy that would lead towards a more productive life and independent style of living.

Detroit East was merged with Gateway Community Health in 2012. The Detroit East Health Services name is new, yet our mission and values continue. Detroit East Health Services continues to recognize that mental illness and substance abuse are diseases that, with compassion, innovative care, and community outreach, can be treated and successfully managed.
